Luke 2:1-7

One of the worst parts about traveling during the holidays is often when you have to stay at a home other than your own. As nice as it may be, there’s something about being in the privacy of your own house, in your own routine, that makes one feel comfortable and safe. The Christmas story doesn’t give us those comfortable and safe feelings.  It’s a story of a people group who were dominated to an invading army—the Romans. Their routines were in upheaval.  And our main characters, Mary and Joseph, got displaced from their home and had to make a long journey to a place they didn’t know. Yet, in this period of discomfort, we see the plan of God moving forward.  It was a plan unlike any that had come before it.
