Week 6 - The Gift of Distinguishing Between Spirits

  • Read 1 John 4:1-6
  • What stands out to you when reading this passage? What are your thoughts on reading this passage descriptively versus prescriptively?
  • When it comes to the gift of distinguishing between spirits, what does John emphasize that is important for us to consider implementing in our use of the gift?
  • Do you have experience with this gift? Have you used this gift? What are your overall thoughts on distinguishing between spirits in general? Explain if possible.
  • Can anyone distinguish between spirits? How do we do this? What are the differences between discerning the Holy Spirit, the human spirit, evil spirits?
  • What are your thoughts on how we are to test the spirits? What does this mean to you? How should we do this in the church?
  • How would WestWinds Community Church benefit from this gift being activated and used in the church? Imagine what that would be like.
  • Prayer time and exercise the gifts - take time to pray and request the release of the gifts by the Holy Spirit - wait on Him and allow time for the gift(s) to manifest. Be encouraged to step and share anything you sense the Holy Spirit speaking to you. This is a safe space to experiment and step out in boldness. You don’t have to be perfect, just be willing to take a risk.
